Can Meditation Change the World?

President Joachim Chissano

President Joachim Chissano

Here is an interesting article in Psychology Today by Steve Taylor about “The amazing story of the ‘meditating president” – President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique.  The author first mentions the spiritual philosopher Ken Wilber and his challenging remark “The best way to stop famine in the world is to meditate.” Then he continues with the story of Joachim Chissano. …

“… What was it that made Chissano so rational and compassionate as a leader?
In 1992, he learned transcendental meditation. Quickly becoming aware of the benefits of the practice himself, he taught it to his family, then his cabinet ministers and his wider government. In 1994,it became a requirement for all military and police recruits to meditate twice a day, for 20 minutes.
Chissano himself is in no doubt that this collective meditation was responsible for the peace and increasing prosperity of the country. As he said, ‘The result has been political peace and balance in nature in my country…The culture of war has to be replaced by the culture of peace. For that purpose, something deeper has to be changed in our mind and in our consciousness to prevent the recurrence of war.’”

Coherence creating group on Monte Alban, Mexico, during meditation, 21 Dec 2012

Mangalorean.com published this article by Dr. David Leffler about the gathering of Yogic Flyers on Monte Alban, Mexico, on 21 December 2012. He mentions 8.000 of them, but during a report on the Maharishi Channel the same day, photos of a just few hundred were shown. Most of 8.000 did not go the mountain, they stayed in smaller units in their schools and communities, but were doing their Yogic Flying program at the same time.

Today, Friday 21st December 2012,  in South Mexico, thousands of Maya and Inca descendants will have a big celebration on a famous mountain where they will perform Yogic Flying together in a group at 12 noon local Mexican – which is 6 pm GMT. Their performance will create a powerful influence of coherence and harmony in world consciousness. And the good thing is, they will continue even afterwards – in their schools and communities nearby. This will be done in several groups, but still by a large number regularly every day at the same time – synchronized. 9.000 Students, teachers and parents have learned Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi program including Yogic Flying in the past months in that region.
