Happy New Year! And thanks for visiting! … Here is a new online course by MUM which may interest you: “Narrative: The Art of Story”. Watch the trailer.
The “Art of Story” course offers the student the opportunity to understand all the key elements that are part of a narrative. These include the protagonist and antagonist, character, plot, style and handling a story’s main themes. For most people it is all too easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of content we feel we want to put in a story or to have the feeling that something is wrong or missing – that the story doesn’t work. The benefit of this course is that you will be able to swiftly detect what is amiss with your own narrative. The writing exercises will also teach you how to get past creative blocks and to fix any weaknesses in a narrative. Writing is a craft and it is possible to greatly improve the results of your work by developing the craft.
The skills and experience gained will aid those who wish to write compelling novels, short stories, creative non-fiction, film, television, drama, and even poetry. The art of storytelling is key to all of these narrative forms.
The components of the course include:
The fundamentals of storytelling
Constructing a plot
Understanding the protagonist and antagonist
Creating authentic characters and handling them throughout the story
The awareness and management of narrative themes
Creative writing exercises designed to develop the craft of writing
