Environment and Yogic Flying

Yogic Flyer

Yogic Flyer

I just received this record of an interview with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 2003 from my friend Margot Suettmann: Environment and Yogic Flying, Press Conference 7 May 2003

Question: Maharishi said last week that yogic flyers are not currently able to fly higher in the air because of stress in the world. At the same time Maharishi previously said it is possible to get enlightened even if the world is ignorant, that we can turn on the light in our house even if it is dark outside. Does this mean that there are degrees of enlightenment, that an individual can be more enlightened when the world is at peace than when the world is highly stressed?

Maharishi: “Atmospheric influence is quite an important area. We cannot eliminate the importance of environment. With regards to flying, it is an indication of the ability of the mind to instantly fulfill its desire. Huge body lifts up in the air and brought about, above the ground, by the thought force.

The flying sutra is just a projection of a thought from that settled mind, from where total natural law in silence is engaged in the fulfillment of thought. This is Vedic thought. Vedic thought means the thought based on total knowledge of natural law which we say, the Will of God. Almighty Will of God. Omniscient Will of God. Omniscient Will of God. A man may be here or there or there or there, there, any part of the world. But the Will of God is all pervading and through Transcendental Meditation and this sutras of the yogic flying technique, the conscious mind stirs that area from where the thought comes up – silence.

And the total natural law, total creativity of natural law, is immediately engaged in fulfilling the thought. That’s why the action principle, the principle of action is: “Yogastah kuru karmani.” These are the vedic words, that stationed in that silence within yourself, in that self-referral consciousness, perform action. So the formula for performing an action is, to get to that silent level of consciousness and from there you think, and the thought will engage the infinite organizing power of natural law and the thought will be quickly fulfilled.

So this is just an indication that those whose body lift up in the air, yogic flyers, they have the ability through their program. And for that we give credit to the teachers of the Vedic wisdom who gave us this little, little techniques where we can take our awareness to the source of thought, that the thought engages total natural law, infinite creativity of natural law, and the thought is fulfilled. This is how life has to be lived, without pressure of any tension or negativity. This is education. This is education. This is consciousness-based education.

You practice Transcendental Meditation and take the mind to that level of silence from where total natural law, infinite organizing power of natural law is ready to pick up your thought, and instant fulfillment of the thought takes place. Very simple. Absolutely very simple but equally suitable for everyone. This is what we say: “one period a day in the classrooms of the students” and the whole society will be so full of coherence, of harmony, that negativity will not be found in the atmosphere. Very great power of thought, with such simplicity. A perfect society is on the way to come up in the world and the whole world is going to be a world of cosmic behavior, cosmic intelligence, where total natural law will be experienced as functioning in daily life of everyone.

And for that, we have some kind of a sense of a few thousand people practicing this in a Group and harmony will radiate from that Group. Every part of the world will be infused with peace, happiness, all positivity, all positivity.

Because the process is so simple, because everyone wants to enjoy life, and because no one wants to suffer, all these qualities of life are in favor of a very beautiful quality of life rising in the world and that is our pride and that is our effort and that we rejoice.

It is our joy that a world of peace, prosperity, happiness, will be enjoyed in our world family and there will be no negativity, there will be no failure in life. There will be all positivity, all achievements, everything. Very beautiful, very beautiful world is going to come up. Very beautiful world is going to come up.”

The Rolling Stone: “Katy Perry, Sting Stun at David Lynch’s Meditation Benefit Concert”

The Rolling Stone: “Minutes after an uproarious Jerry Seinfeld performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on Wednesday night, silence overtook the sold-out crowd. At the request of the evening’s host, George Stephanopoulos, and his guest onstage, meditation teacher Bob Roth, the nearly 3,000 people who’d gathered for the David Lynch Foundation’s benefit concert, Change Begins Within, managed to close their eyes and mostly shut up for three minutes. Only a few cell phones pinged and a handful of people coughed, as those gathered either meditated — the Blue Velvet director’s organization advocates transcendental meditation for stress control — or simply respected the silence.

That short period, however, was the only quiet moment of the evening. In addition to Seinfeld’s comedy, Katy Perry, Sting, Angélique Kidjo, Jim James and classical guitarist Sharon Isbin each performed short, lively sets. And since each of the performers actively practices transcendental meditation, they also spoke to its power.

‘I started TMing about five years ago, and it’s changed my life,” Perry, who taught transcendental meditation to her touring crew last year, told the crowd. “It’s changed the way I’ve thought about things and it’s changed my attitude. You know how you have a crappy day and something just doesn’t want to go right? I always excuse myself for 20 minutes and then I’m back.'”
