David Lynch and Russell Brand joined forces to help bring Transcendental Meditation to 1,000,000 at-risk youth at the U.S. premiere of ‘Meditation, Creativity, Peace’ at the Hammer Museum’s Billy Wilder Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 2. The premiere marked the launch of the “Meditation in Education” global outreach campaign.

“Proceeds from the global distribution of the documentary will be used to help students in the United States and across the world overcome traumatic stress, improve learning ability and raise performance through Transcendental Meditation,” said Lynch.

The response to the film was overwhelming with only 300 seats and over 1,000 people showing up. An overflow hall and outdoor screens were set up so hundreds more could see the film, and the dynamic 20-minute interview that followed with David Lynch, Russell Brand, and DLF executive director, Bob Roth. Roth said the overwhelming response was indicative of a change in collective consciousness since the film was first shown in New York City a year and a half ago.

Can Meditation Change the World?

President Joachim Chissano

President Joachim Chissano

Here is an interesting article in Psychology Today by Steve Taylor about “The amazing story of the ‘meditating president” – President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique.  The author first mentions the spiritual philosopher Ken Wilber and his challenging remark “The best way to stop famine in the world is to meditate.” Then he continues with the story of Joachim Chissano. …

“… What was it that made Chissano so rational and compassionate as a leader?
In 1992, he learned transcendental meditation. Quickly becoming aware of the benefits of the practice himself, he taught it to his family, then his cabinet ministers and his wider government. In 1994,it became a requirement for all military and police recruits to meditate twice a day, for 20 minutes.
Chissano himself is in no doubt that this collective meditation was responsible for the peace and increasing prosperity of the country. As he said, ‘The result has been political peace and balance in nature in my country…The culture of war has to be replaced by the culture of peace. For that purpose, something deeper has to be changed in our mind and in our consciousness to prevent the recurrence of war.’”

Update – 8,000 Mayan, Zapotec, and Mixtec Students Meditate for World Peace

Coherence creating group on Monte Alban, Mexico, during meditation, 21 Dec 2012

Coherence creating group on Monte Alban, Mexico, during meditation, 21 Dec 2012

Mangalorean.com published this article by Dr. David Leffler about the gathering of Yogic Flyers on Monte Alban, Mexico, on 21 December 2012. He mentions 8.000 of them, but during a report on the Maharishi Channel the same day, photos of a just few hundred were shown. Most of 8.000 did not go the mountain, they stayed in smaller units in their schools and communities, but were doing their Yogic Flying program at the same time.

Today, Friday 21st December 2012,  in South Mexico, thousands of Maya and Inca descendants will have a big celebration on a famous mountain where they will perform Yogic Flying together in a group at 12 noon local Mexican – which is 6 pm GMT. Their performance will create a powerful influence of coherence and harmony in world consciousness. And the good thing is, they will continue even afterwards – in their schools and communities nearby. This will be done in several groups, but still by a large number regularly every day at the same time – synchronized. 9.000 Students, teachers and parents have learned Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi program including Yogic Flying in the past months in that region.

Coherence rising in Latin America

Students practicing Transcendental Meditation in Latin America

Currently the fastest progress is being made in Latin America since several years. Schools, colleges and universities incorporate Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques into their curriculum. Even teachers, professors, and parents join.

With the formation of more and more groups in many countries in  South and Middle America, changes in collective consciousness are occurring. Government leaders – the voice of collective consciousness – express more self-confidence and independence from outside influences.

It will be very interesting to see the harmonizing and peace creating effect for the whole world once a group or even more groups reach the number necessary to create a shift in world consciousness (which is about 8.000 – the square root of the world’s population).

It is very important then to maintain these groups on a permanent basis and disallow too many fluctuations in the number of its participants to ensure a stable influence of coherence. Please refer to http://www.mum.edu/m_effect/

Fairfield, Iowa, “America’s most unusual town” – according to Oprah Winfrey

Students and citizens gather at MUM in Fairfield, Iowa, to watch the Oprah show about their town, on 25 March 2012.

Coming back to Fairfield, Iowa, USA, where Maharishi University of Management (MUM) is located, I would like to mention, that a great part of the population of this city is also actively contributing to the coherence of North America and the whole world. Or should I say “silently” instead of actively?

Did you see Oprah Winfrey’s show this spring? She went with her video team to Fairfield, visited MUM, and the Maharishi-School, the “domes” (the meditation halls), and talked to the citizens. Since she is a TM-meditator herself, she participated in the group meditation in the ladies dome. Click the photo and you will see her more clearly.

Oprah Winfrey and Ed Malloy, mayor of Fairfield, standing in one of the large community meditation halls.

Yes, every day about 1200 to 1400 people in Fairfield – students, professors, layers, designers, carpenters, businessmen, farmers, housewives etc. – come together and enliven the field of pure awareness in their mind, in their brain, in their physiology. And it spreads through the walls all over the country, all over the world … but the world is big, so we need more people who generate coherence in this profound manner.

Scientific research has shown that a phase transition takes place in society once the number of people equivalent to the square root of 1 % of the population of a town, city, state, country or even the world (yes, latter has been demonstrated already in 1983/84) practice the Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhi program (an advanced program including Yogic Flying) together in a group, morning and evening.  The result is reduction of violence and crime, less accidents, more upsurge of life supporting trends and positivity. Please refer to http://www.mum.edu/m_effect/ This is called the Maharishi-Effect, referring to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi the founder of the TM and TM-Sidhi program.
